"Nothing but great things to say about Red House Remodeling! Their entire staff – from design to implementation – was great to work with. Their familiarity with the latest trends in home improvement coupled with their knowledge of new products on the market made the collaborative design phase quick, easy and fun for the entire family. The overall attention to detail while maintaining functionality exceeded our expectations. Ben and his team made customer service a priority throughout the entire project. He was always open to our questions and concerns and did a wonderful job of communicating at every step along the way.

As a father himself, Ben understood the complexity of doing a large remodeling project in a place that the kids call home. His team of professionals were always courteous and polite and went out of their way to minimize the disruption for our family."

"We have used Red House Remodeling for two major projects on our home – upstairs hall bathroom and our kitchen and dining room. The projects were about 3 years apart and we came back to Red House for the more extensive kitchen and dining room project after the success of the upstairs hall bathroom. Ben is very organized in assessing the project and communicating the details. He also provides realistic expectations and guidance on the project to stay on budget and achieve our remodeling goals. The Red House team has a dedicated designer to help you with your project and picking out all the elements – floors, cabinets, counters, fixtures, etc. Our designer on both projects – Jenna – spent time with us at our home, at their office, and at various stores reviewing options and discussing pros and cons. She was very helpful in getting us the overall look we wanted in both cases and offered her opinions. She was also patient throughout the design process, allowing us to discuss and consider multiple options.

One thing I especially appreciated is their recommendation that new elements can blend well with existing ones (like our new wood floors blending with our oak trim). Once all the details were settled and demolition began, Ben provided a detailed schedule for the project and stayed on schedule and communicated any major changes to that. With the bathroom remodel, the plumber accidentally damaged the new floor and Ben made sure this was replaced at no charge to us and tried to keep the schedule interruption to a minimum. With the kitchen remodel, we really had no major delays or issues come up. Ben and crew were very helpful in making sure our old cabinets could be salvaged for Habitat for Humanity Restore – which is a great way to keep used items out of the landfills and help low income homeowners looking to remodel. This also eliminated our need to have a dumpster in our driveway for the duration of the project. Ben’s crew and subcontractors were polite and generally very tidy in their construction process and accommodating to our requests through the kitchen remodel. Ben even delayed the demolition of our dining room at our request so we could have a bit more room for a couple extra weeks.

Overall, we have had two great experiences with the Red House Remodeling team – from the initial consultation, thorough and dedicated design process, organized and timely demolition and construction, and follow up on the checklist of wrap up items – the team does an excellent job for their clients. We have plans to use them again in the future."

“Our experience with the staff at Red House Remodeling has been extremely positive. They were very responsive to our wants and requests, and extremely courteous and professional…from the workers to Ben and Jenna. We’d originally met with three different firms, and after a month long process, we chose Red House. Our project involved taking down a wall, expanding and redesigning the kitchen to better fit our wants, windows, patio door, and flooring for the first floor. Throughout the design process, we worked with Jenna and found her input and expertise IMMEASURABLE.

Once the construction phase started, we worked more with Troy, Chris, and Ben. The project was rather extensive, the timeline long, and we’re glad we chose Red House Remodeling as our contractor, and would do so again in the future for other projects.”

“We met Ben Trannel at the 2016 Home and Garden Show. He was one of 5 estimates we had done. When we met Ben personally at our house, he answered all of our questions fully and honestly. We received his estimate and he answered any other questions we had. Out of all of the estimates, we were most comfortable with Red House Remodeling. We then sat down with Ben and his top designer, Jenna, to begin the design process. We had several other meetings to pick out all of the material for the remodeling project.

We signed a contract with Ben and it included the preparation, the demolition, the full kitchen/living room project and the cleanup. We also had a weekly schedule so we knew what and when the work would be done. His employees were fantastic and he had great sub-contractors. The project was completed on time. Red House Remodeling is a great company and we plan on using them again.”

“Red House Remodeling did a first floor remodel on our 1987 home. This included gutting the kitchen with installation of new cabinets including building new pantry space, new countertops and new flooring throughout. They also remodeled the powder room, laundry room and built a mudroom with lockers coming in from the garage.

Ben and Stephanie Trannel and their staff are extremely professional and did a great job. We are very happy with the result! They took the time to meet with us to determine our needs and we chose the best plan for us based on the optional designs they presented. They provided some ideas that we hadn’t even thought of, and we ended up implementing those ideas and the result was even better than expected! Their on-staff designer, Jenna, was a great help in guiding us through the process of choosing materials for the project, and she was always an email or phone call away if we needed her. I think having her guidance was definitely an added valuable service that some other contractors don’t offer. They provided us with a work schedule prior to construction so we knew exactly what to expect and they stayed right on schedule and completed the project exactly when they said they would.

The staff was a pleasure to work with and they were very responsive when we had questions or concerns, even after hours. Everyone was always very courteous and polite and accommodating of our time and space, which we truly appreciated since they were in our home for several weeks! And even now when we’ve had questions about something, several months after the project was done, they are happy to help. We did get a couple other quotes from other contractors when we were planning the remodel, and other prices may have been a little less, but we feel we made the right choice with Red House Remodeling. We truly believe you get what you pay for! They are very down to earth, professional, creative, and do great quality work, so it was worth it to have the experience go well and have the outcome we truly wanted. We would definitely work with them again.”

“Highest praise for Red House Remodeling. They were great to work with and we are loving our fully remodeled house. Red House Remodeling did a complete remodel of our 1962 Colonial in Des Moines, IA.  This remodel included a Geothermal heating and hot water system.  Completely new plumbing with three new bathrooms. Installation of all new electric wiring from wall to pole.  A new kitchen and remodel of every room of our house. Another way of putting it is Red House Remodeling built a new house inside the shell of our old house. We worked with (project designer) Jenna Porter to develop the initial design for our project. She was very patient as we fumbled our way to what we wanted and what we could afford.

Once the design was completed down to the knobs for the drawers and lights in the ceiling. Based on this complete design, Ben Trannel did a detailed estimate of cost. One of the great things about the detailed initial design, is that our cost varied very little from that initial estimate. The Red House Remodeling workers were professional and did excellent work. I highly recommend Red House Remodeling for any of your remodeling needs from a single room to a whole house remodel.”

“Red House Remodeling does timely, professional, and exceptional work. Exceptional attention to details and communication throughout the entire project! Staff that are highly skilled and hard working as well as detailed in craftsmanship and clean up. Architectural drawings and selection of all cabinets, granite, tile, and fixtures was very helpful in putting together the entire package for a fantastic result. We are very pleased with all of the results of our Master Bath. When there was an issue with alignment of the shower doors it was handled that very day by Ben Trannel and the staff. From the beginning to the end, the entire experience was fantastic! I would highly recommend this team of folks to do any remodel or addition!

We first worked with Red House Remodeling when our 19 year old son suffered a severe spinal cord injury leaving him paralyzed from the neck down in 2012, we didn’t have to look much further than our own backyard to find a highly skilled and professional group to put a new addition on our home to accommodate our son. From the initial plans to allow for handicap access to the detailed craftsmanship the crew at Red House maintained constant communication and courteous behavior. They really cared to discuss options for access with our son that was injured and our family throughout the process. Ben’s attention to detail and consistent presence each day made for an accurate timeline for completion as well as working to make everything best. Ben worked tirelessly with vendors and contractors that had generously donated to our family during this tragedy to make the best use of product and services to assist in our costs. The staff was very personal and caring of our son’s privacy–they became part of our family during a time of challenge with great support, communication, and fantastic work to help our new life needs.

The additional project included: preparation, design, planning, selection and project management. Demolition and relocation of A/C unit, vents, gas line, landscaping, basement wall. Excavation of yard and pour of concrete footings for addition and foundation, framing, structural, support, roof, re-framing of multiple areas post demo.  Insulation and drywall, siding, roofing, gutters as well as windows, doors and attention to detail. Plumbing, HVAC, electrical details. Bathroom made to accommodate handicap accessible wheelchair, fixtures, cabinet, granite, tile work done exceptionally. Bathroom tile work, trim and solid oak flooring installed. Carpet installed in lower level. Elevator medical lift support and housing details to exact detail for equipment installation. Worked tirelessly to clean and communicate throughout this project to allow for our family to maintain a sense of normalcy all while meeting and exceeding our expectations!”-Michelle, West Des Moines Addition

“Love the bathroom. We’re just getting used to it. Our son says, Mom, I love the new bathroom. It’s awesome, just as cool as the one at Cheesecake Factory! So there you have it, an unabashed testimonial.”

“I had the opportunity to work with Red House Remodeling on a complete kitchen remodel as well as a handyman project in my laundry area. Both projects were very positive experiences. Ben and his team were great to work with. They were able to take my vision of what I wanted for my kitchen and make it even better. Never having done anything like this before I was apprehensive about what to expect. I found everyone to be professional and courteous. They even fixed my patio door when he noticed that it was off track. At the beginning of the remodel Ben gave me a schedule of what would be done each day. That helped me in planning my day as well. The work was top notch. Once the cabinets were in they even had a suggestion on how to make the panel over the microwave look better.

I wouldn’t hesitate to call them in the future if I need work done.”

“Our project was completed on time and on budget. Those are two large keys to a successful project. It took about 5 weeks, but a lot of work was involved and their scheduling was right on point. We did a complete makeover to our kitchen, which was originally built in the 70s. We updated the flooring in the kitchen, a small bathroom, the dining room, and an entry way. Walls were updated in the kitchen and bath. The kitchen had new cabinets, counter, lights, sink and faucet. The bathroom had a pocket door replaced with a standard door. With such a large project there were many details, and even the planning phase to get to a contract was a bit overwhelming. Our project designer was a huge help as with many of the questions/issues/choices, we simply had no clue or good reason to go one way or the other. She was able to offer her insight as to modern color schemes, modern styles, and what goes with what. She considered what styles would stand the test of time (resale) as well as what would be useful, convenient and stylish now.

One issue that arose was a bit of confusion on what was included and what wasn’t included in our project. This occurred mostly because we had so many choices to make and there are so many options available. I believe the confusion was on our end but Red House Remodeling went out of their way to make it right without additional charge to us. The issues had to do with options to cabinets and drawers (slide-outs, silverware tray, etc.). This was resolved very much to our satisfaction. The work – especially the demolition – resulted in a lot of dust and debris. The Red House Remodeling workers did a great job of cleaning up and kept us in as reasonable living condition as possible given the house being turned into a work site. We were impressed. We would (and will) recommend Red House Remodeling to our friends in the Des Moines area.”
